What Violin etc Players Say
These are several excerpts of what stringed instrument players said over a decade of violin makers/repairers Birute and Czes Kul activities:
- It happened in 1994. I was a bass player student and a bridge of my instrument crashed. I was confused, as I knew that there are no luthiers who could repair a bass in Vilnius. Then one of my colleagues proposed me to visit Ceslovas’ workshop, and in a few days I could play handily…
Vytis Matuzas, bass player
- When after my studies at Lithuanian Conservatory I became a viola player of the National Chamber Orchestra, I started looking for a good fiddle. It always is a problem to find a suitable instrument. After a prolonged hunting wherever possible I chose just the first instrument made by Ces, and in a decade I never felt sorry of this choice. We communicate on a regular basis, I test other violas and I see that all of them are suitable for a professional player. The passion and quality of their work is the foundation of their success.
Ramunas Zakaras, viola player
- My students often require larger and/or well-sounding instruments. It is always a problem to find out such an instrument at an affordable price. This problem was soundly solved when Ces, later joined by his wife Birute, started their activities as violin makers.
Danute Rudokiene, violinist, teacher
- I got acquainted with a new violin maker in 1994, when my viola started emanate a sort of unpleasant buzz and nobody could identify it. Ces was able to find out its origin and successfully fix the buzz. Thus our association started. Over that time I tested well over a dozen violas and violins made by him (later his wife Birute joined him) in the hall of the National Philharmonic. Every one of them its own sound, but I could easily propose all of them to my colleagues, etc. All of them are very comfortable to use. I appreciate instruments created by this couple. I am particularly excited with their power to improve overall sounding characteristics of instruments having initially problematic sound. Results are surprising – I have not heard of such services ever before!
